News : 75 U.S. researchers Infected Anthrax Bacteria

Approximately 75 scientists working in the laboratory of the Federal Government of the United States (U.S.), suspected of contracting anthrax bacteria. They are currently being treated to prevent infection.

Potential transmission of the deadly bacteria occurred after the researchers working in biological laboratories with high security. Most of the researchers who is contracted to work at the research center Institute for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Generally, these researchers work at the research center in Atlanta. They failed to follow the procedure to disable bacteria.

They then move to the CDC laboratory bacterial samples with low security. In this lab they are not equipped to cope with the anthrax bacteria are still active.

Director of Safety and Environmental Health CDC Dr. Paul Meechan said he found the possibility of the transmission on June 13, 2014. Later, the bacteria began infecting workers in the laboratory.

"Until now, there were no employees who showed ill from anthrax," Meechan said, as quoted by Reuters on Friday (20/06/2014).

Meechan said the normal incubation period is five to seven days. However, there are recorded cases showed disease appeared after 60 days of contracting the bacteria.

Researchers confirmed seven people in direct contact with live anthrax bacteria. But in the end there are 75 people who are given treatment to paralyze the harmful bacteria.

For a while the CDC conducting an internal investigation to find out how it could be infected with the bacteria. If there is involvement of the people, then the CDC will provide penalties against violators.
