The coast guard said Jamie Smith , a local fisherman told the presence of jellyfish that washed up onto the beach .
" What surprised me because jellyfish tail is very long and the color , " says Smith .
Researchers jellyfish , Lisa Gershwin , said the possibility of a new type .
" I've never seen anything like this before . Due to the color purple , I suspect this is a new species , " he said .
Gershwin explained , purple jellyfish is in the group of the genus Thysanostoma , which is not commonly found in Australian waters .
" Seeing the type Thysanostoma here especially the color purple , " he said .
This type of jellyfish , obviously Gershwin , may be identified by the size of the long tail , which is also the animal 's mouth .
" The tail - tail small mouth on all sides have a very small size that they use to absorb the plankton , " he explained .
