News: Egyptian police shot dead 3 Armed Men, 9 Others Injured

Cairo - A group of armed men opened fire towards the police party near the Egyptian Al-Azhar University in Cairo. The shooting killed three policemen and wounded nine other policemen.

The attack came just days before the presidential elections held in Egypt on 26-27 May. The attacks targeting police in Egypt increased since the overthrow of president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 ago.

Egypt's Interior Ministry as reported by AFP on Tuesday (05/20/2014), said that the latest attack occurred on the sidelines of rallies supporting Morsi held by students from Al-Azhar University in Cairo.



The armed men riding a car and opened fire at police who were manning the security post at the campus. At least three police personnel were killed and nine others wounded policemen.

The incident occurred one day after two Egyptian policemen were shot dead by armed men in downtown Minya.

Hundreds of Egyptian police and soldiers were killed in a series of attacks and acts of violence by local militants. Egyptian authorities were trying to fight the militants who continue to spread threats in the region.

After the overthrow of Morsi and the dissolution of the Muslim Brotherhood, the Egyptian police and army arrested thousands of supporters of the organization, including its leaders. In Egypt the military operation, hundreds of supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood were killed. Egypt's military gait even provoke the emergence of hard-line militants who increasingly intense bombing and shooting attacks in the Egyptian territory.
